Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Sunday that Poland still has a chance to play host to the 2022 Winter Olympic Games despite the resignation of bid committee president Jagna Marczulajtis-Walczak on Saturday.
There were media allegations that Marczulajtis-Walczak’s husband sought the support of journalists for Poland’s bid in exchange for money.
Tusk said he regretted her departure adding that Poland and neighbouring Slovakia could still play host to the Games.
According to Krakow’s bid plans, Alpine ski events would be held across the border in Jasna, Slovakia.
Krakow residents will be voting in a referendum on May 25 on whether they support the bid.
Other cities bidding for the 2022 Games include Almaty, Beijing, Lviv and Oslo. The IOC is to elect a host city on July 31, 2015 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
