Focus news magazine reports Sunday that Munich is considering another Winter Olympic bid for either 2022 or 2026, following its failed 2018 bid which was won by PyeongChang, South Korea.
According to Focus, Munich council is trying to line up large local sponsors such as BMW, electronics company Siemens, and Allianz Insurance.
The German Olympic Committee was concerned about a 2022 bid, but reportedly still has faith in Munich’s concept.
Ralph Huber, managing director of Munich’s Olympia Park, was quoted in Focus saying, “we are talking to potential supporters. We are confident to issue success statements over the next weeks or months”.
German Olympic Committee general director Michael Vesper told dpa that Munich seemingly wants to be able to keep the Olympic idea going.
A bid for the 2022 Games will have to be submitted to the IOC in 2013 while a 2026 bid has until 2017.
