Majority Favours Oslo 2022 Winter Olympic Bid

According to a survey by Respons Analyse, a majority in Oslo favour a 2022 Winter Olympic bid.

Of the 1,000 people surveyed, 51 per cent were in favour of a bid while 35 per cent were opposed, according to the daily Aftenposten. The remaining 14 per cent were undecided.

A similar poll in January showed that only 45.2 per cent favour a bid.

Eli Grimsby, head of the group planning Oslo’s bid, said the increase in support could be due to greater awareness of the concept called Games in the City, reports Aftenposten.

A local referendum on the bid is due in September.

Those bidding for the 2022 Winter Games must submit bids to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) before the end of 2013, and the 2022 host city will be elected by the IOC in 2015.
