The Associated Press reports Lviv’s city council has voted in favour of a proposed bid for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.
Lviv’s Mayor Andriy Sadovyy calls it a “great opportunity and a huge responsibility for our city”.
The bid still needs the final approval of Ukraine’s national Olympic committee which meets November 5 in Kiev.
Committee President Sergei Bubka said in a statement Monday that this is a “national priority project and the whole of Ukraine will join efforts behind our bid”.
Other possible candidates for the 2022 Games include Almaty Kazakhstan, Munich Germany, Oslo Norway, and a joint Poland-Slovakia bid.
