Kazakhstan To Bid For 2022 Winter Olympics

Minister of Tourism and Sport Temirkhan Dosmukhanbetov said that Kazakhstan intends to submit a bid for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in 2017.

He said that Kazakhstan has the conditions to take part in the competition and become a venue for such events, adding that the global sports community, including the International Olympic Committee (IOC), recognizes it.

Dosmukhanbetov said, “Kazakhstan has the best conditions (for the Olympics) among Asian countries”, stressing that Kazakhstan hopes to hold the 2022 Games in two cities – Astana and Almaty, to avoid the construction of additional sports facilities.

Kazakhstan’s bid has reportedly been discussed at a meeting between Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, and Jacques Rogge, head of the IOC.
