Stefan Linderberg, head of the Swedish National Olympic Committee, told TT news agency that there is popular support for a 2022 Winter Olympic Games bid from Stockholm, while the government has expressed doubt over the prospects of success.
He said, “perhaps this is a unique chance that we have. That alone makes it worth trying”.
The Swedish government has wondered whether a bid for the 2022 Games would have any chance of winning, but Linderberg reportedly is adamant there was a case for trying.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will vote on the host city for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in August 2015.
