Residents of Poland have been urged to support a bid from Krakow for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games. Former President Lech Walesa and Winter Olympians Justyna Kowalczyk, Adam Malysz and Zbigniew Brodka were among 47 names endorsing a letter published on the Krakow 2022 website.
The letter said, “the Olympic Winter Games constitute an ambitious challenge requiring widespread public and organizational mobilization. Through the Games, Krakow can make its presence felt in the world in a unique manner and make our dreams come true. The legacy of the Games will be appreciated by all and enjoyed for many years ahead”.
Constituents will head to the polls on Sunday to vote in a referendum that could determine whether the bid campaign will stay alive.
The International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) executive board will decide in July which cities go to the final stage of bidding and the IOC will vote on a host city July 31, 2015 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
