Jackie Chan, the producer and action movie star known for the Rush Hour, Kung Fu Panda and Karate Kid movie franchises, is throwing his support behind Beijing’s 2022 Olympic Winter Games bid. He appeared at the Beijing Gehua New Century Hotel Wednesday for the release of 10 Beijing 2022 bid songs.
Joined by Vice Mayor of Beijing and Executive Vice President of the Beijing 2022 bid committee Zhang Jiandong, Chan discussed the song’s twin messages of spreading world peace through the promotion of Olympic values and sustaining the flames of China’s new-found passion for winter sports.
Chan said, “it’s a big honour and pleasure to participate in this and do something for the Winter Olympics bidding. If there is anything I can do, I will be there every time”.
Speaking about his song, Jackie Chan said: “‘Wake Up Winter’ is a testament to how both sport and music have the power to inspire us all, no matter what cultural background we may come from. I am very proud to present this as my contribution to the Beijing 2022 Bid!”
He said, “as a pop singer who understands the power of music, and an ordinary Chinese who has tried my best ever since Beijing’s first Olympic bid back in 1993, I want to urge everyone to support Beijing’s bid for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games by sharing this song”.
Beijing 2022 will be making a critical presentation to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) members at the organization’s headquarters in Lausanne on June 9-10 when the new songs will likely be featured for the first time.
Bejing is competing with Almaty Kazakhstan for the 2022 Games. The host city will be announced July 31 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
