NOC Supports Ukraine 2022 Olympic Bid

Ukraine’s National Olympic Committee issued a press release saying it supports Ukraine bidding to host the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

Representatives of the committee expressed confidence in Ukraine bidding and said it would significantly improve the country’s sports facilities and facilitate economic development of the country.

Ukrainian National Olympic Committee President Serhil Bubka called President Victor Yanukovych’s statement that Ukraine would bid, historic. “In the terms of potential and resources, Ukraine is one of the most powerful states in the region. In order to realize this potential, join the society around the Olympic ideals and values around the idea of the healthy lifestyle, bring the country to the next level, holding the Olympic Games is the best fit”, he said.

The President added that a possible venue for the Games is the winter resort of Bukovel. “At the same time the potential capital venue of the Games is a matter open for discussion”.

He was confident that the Olympics will be a great impetus in the development of tourism in the Carpathians.

The bid city for the 2022 Winter Games will be selected in 2015, but bid cities names must be submitted by 2014.
