Volleyball Finals Boost Tokyo 2016

More than 50 million people tuned into the FIVB World Grand Prix Volleyball Finals in Yokohama Tokyo being held over five days, boosting Tokyo’s bid for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.

Dr. Ichiro Kono, Chairman and CEO of Tokyo 2016 said, “the FIVB World Grand Prix showcased Japan’s long standing expertise at hosting major international sports events as well as demonstrating our love of sport to millions of people. Tokyo 2016 will offer a unique opportunity to infuse the world with the Japanese passion for the Olympic Movement from the very heart of our great capital city. Now we can’t wait to offer our inspiring Musubi Promise to the world to unite youth with sport, the Games with city life, old and new Japan, heritage and innovation, and Green with 2016”.

Tokyo staged the 2006 Men’s and Women’s World Championships final at the Yoyogi National Stadium and the FIVB World Olympic Qualification Tournament at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, both venues for the Tokyo 2016 Games and central to Tokyo’s 2016 bid.
