Japanese Olympic Committee President and Tokyo 2016 Vice President Tsunekazu Takeda hosted Japan Day celebrations at Japan House in Beijing where about 700 distinguished guests joined him in congratulating Japan’s medal winning athletes.
Takeda said, “our athletes have enjoyed great success in the Beijing Games and I am delighted that we are able to honour Japan Day here as the Olympic spirit fills the air. As the world’s greatest sporting event the Olympic Games symbolize all that is great about the power of sport to unite people and by bringing the Games to Tokyo in 2016 we desire to create a new long-lasting agency that will benefit Tokyo, Japan and the whole Olympic Movement”.
Dr. Ichiro Kono, Chairman and CEO of Tokyo 2016 said, “we are very lucky to be at a fantastic Olympic Games in Beijing and I congratulate the Japanese athletes, some of them Tokyo 2016 bid ambassadors, for their superb performance. Tokyo is currently bidding to host the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games and thanks to the excitement that our athletes bring us through their performance, the support for our bid is growing every day in Japan”.
Japan House contains an interactive Tokyo 2016 venue map and multimedia demonstrations, an environment corner highlighting Japan’s green commitment and leaderships, a technology area showing the Tokyo of the future, and a Tokyo 1964 photography exhibition showcasing the legacy of the 1964 Olympic Games.
