North Korea’s Nuclear Test Won’t Threaten Tokyo 2016 Bid

Reuters reports Tokyo Governor Shintaro Ishihara said that North Korea’s latest nuclear test wouldn’t trigger regional instability and threaten the city’s bid to host the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.

Ishihara told Reuters Tuesday when asked about Pyongyang’s test blast the previous day, “it’s an issue of East Asian security. But I don’t think it’s suddenly going to become a flashpoint”.

Meanwhile Ishihara reportedly admitted the race for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games was a tough one to call. He said, “it is difficult to read world opinion or which way the political wind blows. Or how the worldwide recession will influence things. Reading how 100 or so IOC officials will vote is really hard”.
