UK Olympics Minister Advises Rio 2016, Gets Criticized By British MPs

UK Olympics Minister Tessa Jowell arrived in Brazil Sunday and is taking part in several high-profile meetings as well as visiting sites during the course of the week.

While in Brazil Jowell saw Lewis Hamilton’s record-breaking performance at the Grand Prix in Sao Paulo Sunday.

Highlights of Minister Jowell’s visit includes visiting the Brazilian Olympic Committee Tuesday and meeting with its president Carlos Arthur Nuzman, a technical presentation on Rio 2016, a presentation by Jowell on London 2012, an aerial tour of Rio de Janeiro and sporting venues including Maracana stadium Tuesday, and a meeting with local NGO representatives.

Meanwhile, British newspapers report that Jowell came under attack Tuesday for making the trip to Brazil with two government officials. According to the Daily Mail the trip to South America is thought to have cost at least 10,000 pounds and has angered some MPs who say the Olympics Minister should be more frugal during tough economic times.
