Rio 2016 To Promote Bid At Athletics Championships

Rio 2016 representatives will be at the World Championships in Athletics starting Saturday in Berlin to promote its bid for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.

Rio 2016’s bid will be presented at a stand set up in the Market Place, a leisure area in front of the Berlin Olympic Stadium where the event takes place.

The competition will bring together about 2,500 athletes.

Carlos Arthur Nuzman, President of the Rio 2016 bid committee, will be there along with State Governor Sergio Cabral, City Mayor Eduardo Paes, the national secretary for elite sports, Ricardo Leyser, general secretary Carlos Roberto Osorio, communications and marketing director Leonardo Gryner, and sports general manager Agberto Guimaraes.

Nuzman said in a press release, “the World Athletics Championship is a big event that attracts some of the best athletes in the world. We have to pay tribute to this sporting celebration. Once again, our delegation includes representatives from the top three echelons of government, stressing the importance of this event for Rio 2016”.

Organizers are expecting up to 50,000 people to attend with about 3,500 journalists from all over the world covering the event to be televised across 190 countries.
