About 25,000 cyclists took part in a weekend bicycle ride in celebration of World Car Free Day and to support Rio de Janeiro’s bid for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
A Giant screen, 60 m high and 40 m wide, was unveiled at Copacabana Beach, the proposed venue for the beach volleyball arena on which images of thousands of supporters will be shown until the evening before the vote October 2 when the host city of the 2016 Games is elected.
Mayor Eduardo Paes, who attended the unveiling along with Olympic athletes and hundreds of residents said, “this is another incentive for the people to show their support for Rio. We’ve held an open, frank campaign in which we’ve made the city’s proposals clear. Let’s go to the final decision with the certainty of having done a great job”.
