Brazil’s President To Attend 2016 Vote

The Associated Press reports Brazil’s president is attending the International Olympic Committee (IOC) meeting in Copenhagen where the 2016 host city will be voted on, to push Rio de Janeiro’s bid.

Rio 2016 bid officials announced Friday that President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva would lead a delegation to the IOC session on October 2.

Rio state governor Sergio Cabral says Silva will meet with IOC members and lead the formal presentation ahead of the vote.

Rio is competing against Chicago, Madrid and Tokyo. King Juan Carlos of Spain has announced he will also attend the vote for Madrid, but it’s not clear whether U.S. President Barack Obama will attend on behalf of Chicago’s bid.
