Namibia’s Fredericks To Chair 2024 Olympic Bid Evaluation Commission

Frank FredericksFrank Fredericks from Namibia has been chosen to Chair the Evaluation Commission for the 2024 Olympic Games bid it was announced in Lausanne Wednesday.

The four-time Olympic silver medallist from the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games, and former Chair of the IOC Athletes’ Commission, was previously a member of the Evaluation Commissions for the 2012 and 2020 Olympic Games.

48-year-old Fredericks was also a member of the Executive Board from 2008 to 2012.

International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach said of the announcement “Olympic Agenda 2020, with regard to the organisation of the Olympic Games, puts a special focus on sustainability and the athletes’ experience.”

“This is where Frank Fredericks, as a four-time Olympic silver medallist in sprint and former Chair of the IOC Athletes’ Commission, has great expertise.”

The remaining members of the 2024 Evaluation Commission have been selected across various areas of expertise to examine the candidate cities hoping to host the Games.  Including Fredericks and 11 other IOC members the committee of fourteen will be tasked with reviewing bid application files, conducting site visits and generating reports for the IOC Executive Board.

IOC Members Nawal El Moutawakel, Takeda Tsunekazu and Gunilla Lindberg have previous experience chairing evaluation commissions in recent years and are set to contribute to the process once again.  Other members of the panel are Olympians and heads of International Sport Federations, and are listed below.

Budapest, Los Angeles, Paris and Rome are bidding for the 2024 Olympic Games and the IOC will elect a winner in September 2017.
