IOC Calls Spanish Team’s Ad “Inappropriate”

A Spanish Olympic basketball team ad in which the team posed for photographs where they pulled their eyes to make them look Asian was called “clearly inappropriate” by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) but it will take no action because the players have apologized.

IOC spokeswoman Giselle Davies said “it was clearly inappropriate”, reports DPA.
But she said the matter has been rested after the team issued an apology.

Thursday evening the Spanish basketball federation said it was considering legal again against the British newspaper The Guardian, the newspaper originally printed the picture and article, reports the Associated Press. The federation said in a statement, the controversy “was generated by the bad faith shown by several media (organizations) that wanted to damage the image of not only the FEB, but also our country and our sport”.
