Prague 2020 Olympic Bid In Trouble

The Czech News Agency CTK reports Friday that Tomas Petera, head of the Praha Olympijska company co-founded by the Czech Olympic Committee and Prague City Hall, has called for an end to Prague’s bid for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games due to little political support in the country and the ongoing global economic crisis.

However Prague Mayor Pavel Bem, an ardent supporter of the idea, said that City Hall is preparing an analysis of the impact of the economic crisis and that Prague’s bid will be part of the analysis, reports Xinhua.

About three-fifths of Czechs are reportedly against the idea of Prague hosting the 2020 Games, and two-thirds worry about the financial impact of the Games, according to a STEM agency poll conducted in April on 1,043 respondents over the age of 18.
