The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality (Port Elizabeth) South Africa confirmed Saturday that it would bid for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games.
Municipal spokesperson Roland Williams said they were awaiting details about the requirements from the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc), reports Sport 24.
He said, “we have many sporting facilities and infrastructure such as indoor sports fields and hotels to offer”, adding that the municipality had written to Sascoc asking for the specifications regarding this bid, but had not received any feedback.
The host city for the 2020 Summer Games will be announced in Buenos Aires in 2013, but the bid process begins next year.
