Chicago 2016 Unveils Bid To International Audience in Beijing

Chairman and CEO Patrick Ryan of Chicago’s 2016 Olympic Bid was joined by Chicago Mayor Richard Daley to launch Chicago’s bid vision to an international audience at the Beijing Olympics on Tuesday. A reception held at USA House featured the debut of a new bid video – “Chicago Surprises”.

The video is narrated by Chicagoan and star of the television show “CSI” William Peterson and showcases the city and what it has to offer should it win the opportunity to host the world in 2016.

“It was a pleasure to unveil Chicago’s bid for the Olympic Games to an international audience,” said Ryan. “The time we have here in Beijing provides us with unprecedented access to the international sports community, and we are using this opportunity to showcase our bid plan and ideas for furthering the Olympic Movement.”

In attendance at the event were Olympians Gary Morgan (race walking, 1988), Bart Conner (gymnastics, 1984), Bob Beamon (long jump, 1968), Willie Banks (triple jump, 1980, 1984, 1988) and Nadia Comaneci (gymnastics, 1976, 1980). Blues and Jazz music and delicacies inspired by Chicago’s acclaimed chefs rounded out the entertainment.

The “Chicago Surprises” video is currently featured and can be viewed on the GamesBids.com Chicago 2016 information page.
