Tokyo 2020 held its first Executive Board meeting Friday that was attended by Tokyo 2020 President Tsunekazu Takeda, President of the Japanese Olympic Committee, and other newly appointed bid committee Executive Board members. The meeting was chaired by Tokyo 2020 CEO Masato Mizuno, Vice President of the Japanese Olympic Committee.
Takeda said at the meeting , “the best possible members of Japan’s sporting community came together today. Olympians, Paralympians, members of the JOC, JPC, Tokyo and the national government. The team has a wealth of expertise in the field of international sports administration and brings a range of diverse perspectives”.
Shintaro Ishihara, Governor of Tokyo Metropolitan Government, will become the chair of the Tokyo 2020 Bid Committee Council, which is to be established this fall.
Mizuno said, “I stand here today humbled with such a major project in front of us. However, I am extremely confident that we have put together a team that represents the whole of Japan, and is capable of steering us to our goal – the honour of bringing the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games to Tokyo”.
