Tokyo 2020, Istanbul 2020, Get Support From Other Countries

Tokyo and Istanbul are getting support in their bids for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games from other countries.

Union Sports Minister Jitendra Singh has reportedly assured Japanese Ambassador Takeshi Yogi Thursday that he will back Tokyo’s bid when Yagi requested India’s support.

Sources said both India and Japan also agreed on working jointly to maintain wrestling as the core Olympic sport instead of an additional sport.

Meanwhile Egyptian Minister of Sport El Amry Farouk, who was heading a delegation in Ankara, told his Turkish counterpart Suat Kilic Thursday that Egypt would give it’s full support to Istanbul in its 2020 bid.

Kilic, Turkish Minister of Youth and Sports, said the two countries, both with young people making up most of their population, would develop their relations further in sports, reports Xinhua.

Istanbul and Tokyo are competing with Madrid to host the 2020 Summer Olympic Games. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is to elect the host city on September 7 at the 125th IOC session in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
