Tokyo 2020 Counts Down To Host City Selection

With 200 days until the International Olympic Committee (IOC) selects the host city for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games, Tokyo staged a “200 Day to Go” event which was jointly organized by the Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry representing more than 76,000 companies.

Hundreds of local elementary school children were gathered at futuristic Tokyo International Airport.

The event was hosted by Tokyo 2020 Bid Ambassador and London Olympic fencing team silver medallist Yuki Ota, Sydney Olympics 100-metre silver medallist Mai Nakamura, and Paralympics swimming five-time gold medallist Junichi Kawai.

Tokyo 2020 says its underlying concept is to stage the Games as a 60-day sporting and cultural festival. The bid promises that the Games will be built on Tokyo’s “vibrant” atmosphere, innovative fashion and design, diverse music, unmatched gastronomy and trend-setting contemporary art, all of which draw inspiration from the rich traditions of ancient Japan stretching back nearly two millennia.
