Tokyo 2020 Celebrates Olympic Day

Thousands of people in Tokyo joined together to celebrate Olympic Day Sunday, June 23. Celebrations were held throughout the day and events were held across the city.

The Tokyo Symphony Orchestra performed in an Olympic Concert at the Tokyo International Forum, Tokyo’s planned weightlifting venue should it host the 2020 Games. It was attended by thousands of young people and brought together music, culture and sport in celebration of the Olympic Movement.

The night was lit up by 3,000 candles representing Tokyo 2020’s emblem. The four-day long Candle Night, held for its fifth consecutive year in Tokyo Midtown’s garden, represented Tokyoites’ “light of hope” to host the 2020 Games, and underlined the public’s strong support for the bid.
