Survey Boosts Tokyo 2020

A survey by Monocle, a global premium media brand focussing on current affairs, business, culture and design, shows that Tokyo is the world’s seventh most liveable city – up two positions since 2011.

Tokyo 2020 says its high rating in terms of transportation, cuisine, fashion and culture adds further momentum to its goal to host a “spectacular celebration in the heart of one of the world’s most dynamic cities where Olympic Family members and visitors will have a world-class experience”.

Tokyo has consistently ranked as one of the top ten most liveable cities since the establishment of Monocle’s Quality of Life survey in 2007.

Monocle highlights Tokyo’s many attractive characteristics. “Its reputation as a neon-lit city of the future is, to some extent, justified, but what strikes outsiders most are the quiet backstreets and the almost small-town sense of civic responsibility. Tokyo has all the benefits of the big city: first-rate public transport, restaurants, shopping and culture, with few of the downsides”, said the survey.

Tokyo 2020 CEO Masato Mizuno said, “I am thrilled that the decision makers at such a forward-thinking international magazine have recognized Tokyo’s innovative culture and rich history. If Tokyo secures the honour of hosting the 2020 Games, I am confident that the Olympic and Paralympic Families and international visitors will likewise appreciate all that Tokyo has to offer”.
