Thursday, the same day it was announced that Toronto’s mayor has vetoed a bid from the city for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games, a poll was released showing that an overwhelming majority of people in the province of Ontario support a 2020 bid.
The poll surveyed 899 adults in Ontario between July 29 and August 2 and showed that 87 per cent of respondents would support Toronto’s bid. Fifty-five per cent said they fully supported the idea, while 31 per cent agreed that they somewhat support hosting the 2020 Games.
The poll also showed that 90 per cent of Ontarians want the city to launch a committee to put forward a serious bid before the September deadline.
Canada.com reports support for hosting the Games was high across all age groups, educational, and family backgrounds and regions.
