Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, and other members of the cabinet will be attending a session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Buenos Aires, Argentina on September 7 to support Tokyo’s bid for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games, when the host city of the 2020 Games will be elected.
An IOC session will be held the evening of September 6, and representatives of the three candidate cities – Tokyo, Istanbul and Madrid – will give their final presentations on September 7. Voting is to take place later that day.
Abe is expected to cut short his attendance at a summit of the Group of 20 major economies in St. Petersburg, Russia September 5-6 to attend the session and support Tokyo’s bid.
