The main streets of Madrid have been papered with the image of the Alcala Gate, a Madrid landmark, shining in more than 700 streetlights holding up to 1,500 flags, as well as on city street furniture, to promote the city’s bid for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games.
The campaign is to last until February 29. It’s the first of four campaigns planned to decorate the city and involve citizens in the Olympic process.
February 14 Madrid’s bid will be submitted to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Lausanne, and on May 23 the IOC Executive Board will decide in Quebec City, Canada, which cities will continue their bids for the 2020 Games.
The IOC will elect a host city on September 7, 2013 in Buenos Aires.
