The Madrid 2020 delegation emphasized in its presentation to the Assembly of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) Saturday “a clear vision of what we want to achieve, the support and commitment of a city and a whole country, and the valuable experience gained from previous bids. Madrid has everything to host outstanding Olympic Games, and works with the same enthusiasm from a decade ago to become Olympic city – this time in 2020. Besides, most infrastructures are already built – except from only six sporting venues”.
International Olympic Committee (IOC) member Juan Antonio Samaranch referred to the lessons learnt from previous bids and the contributions made by the whole Olympic Family. He highlighted the fact that the aspirations to host the Olympic Games require sincere communication and transparency, full integration of the people and institutions involved in the project; constant cooperation with the IOC, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), federations, athletes and media, and the participation of all government levels and the whole society, especially young people.
Victor Sanchez, CEO of Madrid 2020, highlighted the factors that make Madrid the best candidate. He said the city has the perfect size to host the Games; rich history and culture; a modern, developed and very accessible city with first-class infrastructures; one of the best public transport services in the world; high quality accommodation and services; perfect weather conditions for competition and training; and a wide range of leisure and cultural activities that make Madrid one of the top tourist destinations in the world”
