Japan's Upper House Adopts Tokyo 2020 Resolution

Japan’s House of Councillors voted Wednesday in favour of declaring its full support and cooperation of the House of Representatives resolution to support Tokyo’s bid for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games.

Tokyo 2020 President and Japanese Olympic Committee President Tsunekazu Takeda said, “after the passing of the resolution by the House of Representatives yesterday, the adoption by the Upper House today has come as a further boost to our bid campaign.

“Domestic support for the 2020 bid is increasing steadily, and the passing of the resolution by both Houses of the Diet will further highlight the growing support to host the Games in Japan to the International Olympic Committee and to the wider Olympic family.

“I would like to offer my sincere thanks to the members of both Houses, and look forward to receiving their full cooperation and support as we strive to fulfill our destiny”, he added.
