Should Baku host the 2020 Summer Olympic Games, National Olympic Committee Vice President Chingiz Huseynzade told Trend on Tuesday that projects outlined in its bid book would be expanded.
He said, “if we pass the next stage as a candidate city, we will start thinking about new projects. Of course the allocated budget will be increased”.
Trend reports if Baku is elected host city, its campus will be built on an area of 150 hectares. The main Olympic stadium, which would accommodate 60,000, would be built in the Boyukshor settlement.
Huseynzade said, “after Baku is registered as a candidate city we will become more actively engaged in advertising our capital. It is necessary to prepare the bid books, shoot some movies, and prepare presentations”.
Baku is bidding against Istanbul, Doha, Madrid and Tokyo for the 2020 Games. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will select the candidate cities May 23 at SportAccord in Quebec City, Canada.
Huseynzade added, “we do not know whether we pass, but we are doing everything possible towards this end”.
