#8 – Too Many Cheesy Bidders In Italy

In November, Bari, Italy submitted a bid for the Italian nomination to host the 2020 Olympic Games only to have it rejected just hours later.

Italy’s Olympic Committee (CONI) President Gianni Petrucci criticized the bid because it had not followed the proper procedures.

He said, “this doesn’t look good abroad. It’s not enough just to hold a news conference to put yourselves forward for an Olympics. There are as many Italian cities bidding as there are pizzas in Naples”.

The pizza remark quickly resonated across the Internet and became widely popular on Twitter.

Rome and Venice both submitted applications just prior to Bari’s and CONI will select one to move forward with.

Story #7, which may involve you, will be released later.
