Glasgow is looking for candidates to serve on the organizing committee for the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the first position advertised is for a leader.
The Herald reports that although it is understood the person selected will command a salary around the bottom of the six-figure scale, it could increase significantly in the six years before the Commonwealth Games begin.
Derek Casey, director of Glasgow’s Commonwealth bid team, said, “the job will require a very varied set of capabilities. The successful candidate will speak the language of commerce, as well as the language of sport and of partnership. If they do that with a Scottish accent so much the better, but we are looking worldwide. We have an open mind where he or she comes from. It would be a bonus if it’s a Scot either in Scotland or elsewhere”.
Casey has agreed to remain during the transition from bid team to organizing committee and will advise the selection panel and brief candidates for the job.
Casey said, “as the job gets more complex, demands will become greater and the salary will reflect that growing complexity. The proposed starting salary leaves scope for that. We would be criticized for going in to high initially, and have learned from previous issues with staffing at major sports events”.
