With 16 days to go before the 117th International Olympic Committee (IOC) session begins in Singapore where the host city for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games will be elected, volunteers are being recruited to ensure proceedings at the IOC session go on without a hitch.
Along with Singapore residents, nationals residing in Singapore are also coming out in support, to help in the areas of hospitality, media, logistics and program coordination and operations management.
IOC member Ng Ser Miang, president of the Singapore Organising Committee for the session said, “one of the roles of the Olympics is to promote international understanding. The makeup of our volunteers is a manifestation of this worldwide Olympic philosophy”.
The 117th IOC session will be held at the Raffles Convention Centre from July 6-9, and the highlight of the event is the announcement of the city that will host the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.
Paris, London, New York, Madrid and Moscow are the five cities bidding for the event and several dignitaries from those cities and countries are expected to attend, along with 5,000 other guests.
Ng met all the volunteers Saturday at a special hospitality training session conducted by Singapore Airlines.
