Frankfurt Mayor Petra Roth said of the 15,000 volunteers for Frankfurt’s bid to become the German candidate for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, that she couldn’t imagine a prettier Christmas gift.
Roth said the support for Frankfurt’s bid is simply incredible. The bid not only has volunteers from the region, but also from all parts of Germany. And internationally people from Rumania, Italy, France, Poland, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Great Britain, Austria, Greece and the United States want to become a Frankfurt 2012 volunteer. She believes because of the international support Frankfurt has the best chance of becoming the German candidate.
Also, more than 26,000 students are taking part in a competition called Laufen und Rollen (running and rolls).
Roth said that the Sydney Games had 50,000 volunteers and together with the student volunteers, Frankfurt now has 41,000 people interesting in becoming volunteers. No other German bid city can compare, said Roth.
