Vancouver 2010 organizers said Wednesday there will be road closures in the city starting as early as November 1 to allow for preparations ahead of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
Sections around the Olympic Village will be the first to shut down, with more closures starting in January, according to the updated Olympic transportation plan released by the organizing committee.
The plan includes detailed information on peak hours, street and road closures, extended transit, and advice on the movement of goods and services for businesses.
Terry Wright, Vancouver 2010 executive vice president of services and Games operation, said the goal is to reduce traffic by at least 30 per cent during the Games. He reportedly urged residents and business owners to pull together to make the plan a success by doing their part.
The Vancouver 2010 Games are being held February 12 to 28, followed by the Paralympic Winter Games March 12 to 21.
