Vancouver 2010 is looking for 25,000 men and women to volunteer for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games and has issued a nation-wide call, reports The Canadian Press.
Potential volunteers who can supply their own accommodation and are able to work during the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Vancouver and Whistler are invited to apply online beginning Feb. 12, exactly two years before the Opening Ceremonies.
Online application forms will be posted on the Vancouver 2010 official website. After applying, online prospective volunteers will be screened by telephone and will go through a police check before they get the specific training required for their respective jobs.
Volunteers must be at least 19 years old as of September 1, 2008.
Vancouver 2010 spokeswoman Donna Wilson said potential volunteers from outside the Vancouver area will need to arrange their own accommodation, although a home-stay program is being planned.
VANOC CEO John Furlong says volunteers are needed in such areas as Event Services, Medical Services, Sport, Technology, Translation and Interpretation, transportation, ticketing, press operations and Athlete Village operations.
Prospective volunteers can sign up at the Vancouver 2010 website to receive volunteer updates ahead of Feb. 12.
