Vancouver 2010 Update

Tickets for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games will go on sale earlier than expected. Organizers confirmed at their board of directors meeting Wednesday the first phase of tickets will be made available October 3, eight days ahead of schedule, and remain on sale into November.

But plans to reveal the Olympic torch relay route will be pushed back to late fall or early 2009 in conjunction with the period leading up to the countdown celebrations marking one year until the Games begin.

Vancouver 2010 chairman Jack Poole told reporters following Wednesday’s board meeting that the top priorities remain a balanced budget and keeping all preparations on schedule.

Among the items discussed at the meeting were the re-design of the Vancouver 2010 official website which will be unveiled in September. The revamped site will include tools such as enhanced video and photo features, podcasts and vodcasts, user ratings and comments for website content, and biographies of Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games legends.

Since launching the Call for Volunteers on February 12, VANOC now has received more than 45,000 completed applications from 95 different countries.

The next meeting of the VANOC Board of Directors is scheduled for July 16.
