Vancouver 2010 To Give School Break To Students

College and University students may be given two weeks holiday during the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games, say Olympic organizers. They hope the break will free up buses, athletic facilities, and students who want to work or volunteer at the Games.

But as for elementary and secondary students, no discussions have yet taken place with the school boards.

Spokeswoman Renee Smith-Valade said Vancouver 2010 wants “to ensure that every child and youth has some opportunity to touch and feel the experience of the 2010 Winter Games”.

Whistler, host of some of the 2010 events, is also considering an Olympic break and at least one school district is considering it.

School trustee Andree Janyk said, “it’s an event that comes to very few towns and villages in the world. It’s something that can help students and children grow and learn from”.
