Vancouver 2010 Starts Six-Year Countdown

Vancouver 2010 unveiled its Olympic host-city sign this week marking the beginning of a six-year countdown to the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

The sign has the 2010 logo above the Olympic rings and identifies Vancouver as host city. There will be similar signs going up at several entrances to the city.

Olympic track star Charmaine Crooks, a Vancouver 2010 board member, said work is being done on the Games despite the delay in choosing a CEO. “Things have been a little slower than we thought, but I also feel too that we have to respect the integrity of the process which is going on”.

She said once the CEO is named an aggressive marketing and sponsorship campaign will begin.

Meanwhile, Gordon Campbell, Premier of British Columbia, is planning a Spirit of 2010 tour of the province during the next few months.

The Premier announced that a Spirit of 2010 Business Summit will be held May 3 in Vancouver to focus on tourism, labour, trade, and investment strategies during the 2010 Games.
