Vancouver 2010 Olympic And Paralympic Flags Raised

The Mayors of Vancouver and Whistler, together with First Nations, the Federal Government and other partners were at the historic raising of the Olympic and Paralympic flags on the deck of the Vancouver 2010 Information Centre in Whistler on Friday.

Prior to the ceremony four First Nations drummers from the Lil’Wat Nation performed a “call” to rally the crowd and a local bagpiper led a procession from Millennium Place to the deck of the Information Centre.

Vancouver’s Mayor Sam Sullivan passed both the Olympic and Paralympic flags to the Mayor of Whistler Ken Melamed to be raised up the newly installed 50 foot tall flagpoles, located side by side on the deck of the centre.

Those in attendance included many Olympians and Paralympians.

Whistler will be hosting the Paralympic Games March 12-21, 2010.
