Vancouver 2010 Logo Unveiling Today

The 2010 Olympic Logo will be released at an extravagant ceremony at Vancouver’s General Motors Place on Saturday evening in front of a live television audience across Canada.

The broadcast will begin at 10 p.m. EDT (GMT -5) with the logo being unveiled at 10:30 p.m. between promised musical performances and special surprise guests.

Imagine 2010 Tickets

The introduction of the logo is a key event in the organization of the Olympic Games – it provides an identity for the international sporting event that is still five years in the future.

“When you’ve seen it, you won’t forget it” explained John Furlong, CEO of Vancouver’s Olympic Organizing Committee (VANOC).

The logo was selected by nine judges from among 1,600 entries across Canada in a contest launched last year. The winning entry will receive CDN $25,000, two tickets to the opening ceremonies in 2010 and the satisfaction of knowing their work will be the most identifiable image in the world for several months.

Since being chosen late last year, the image has been a closely guarded secret while VANOC obtained trademark protection and made other legal preparations. Two years ago, the unveiling of the Beijing 2008 Olympic logo was spoiled by a GamesBids.com reader who found the emblem published in a trademark database days before the launch. Then, the presentation had been delayed due to the SARS epidemic in China and the trademark publication couldn’t be stopped.
