Canada’s Natural Resources Minister Herb Dhaliwal has withdrawn from financing negotiations for a key Olympic rail line project, reports Canadian Press (CP) because of a possible conflict of interest.
According to British Columbia’s Premier Gordon Campbell, it could be a setback in getting the line finished in time for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
Campbell said Friday, “if it means we won’t be able to move forward as expeditiously as we need to, then obviously it’s a setback”.
Campbell has said that he needs a commitment from the federal government for $450-million within a few days. But Dhaliwal has said the federal government has earmarked only $300-million within a few days.
