B.C. Premier Gordon Campbell announced that Canada’s provincial and territorial leaders have given unanimous support to British Columbia’s bid to host the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.
“Today’s declaration by the premiers shows how unified Canada is in supporting Vancouver and British Columbia’s 2010 Olympic bid. This will provide an important step forward in our drive to win the Olympic Games”, said Campbell.
“I would personally like to thank the premiers for the unanimous support they have given. This will strengthen B.C.’s position as the IOC prepares its short list for the end of August”.
Meanwhile, the first of more than 90 Vancouver 2010 Bid ice logos, to be located in ice rinks throughout the province, has just been unveiled.
The province-wide project is partnered by 2010 LegaciesNow, the sport development arm of the Vancouver 2010 bid and the British Columbia Recreation and Parks Association.
LegaciesNow President Marion Lay said, “the support of British Columbia Recreation and Parks Association in the 2010 ice logo program initiative shows the great support by the community and B.C. as a whole for our 2010 bid. With this kind of support we are sure to win the bid to host the 2010 Olympic Winter Games and Winter Paralympic Games”.
