Vancouver 2010 Gets More Federal Money

Vancouver 2010 is getting $6.6 million of federal money to help organize its bid. Added to the $2.5 million previously offered by the Canadian Tourism Commission, the total contribution to date is $9.1 million.

Meanwhile, the loss of the “Whistler” from the official bid name is disappointing for some in the Whistler community.

One Whistler Councillor said, “that was an incredible long-term marketing benefit…that we could never get any other way…that really was quite a carrot and a legacy. It’s not gone, but we need to be more creative about it now”.

But the Councillor said she also believes that removing Whistler’s name from the official bid name may limit liability for the resort if the Games don’t go as planned.
