Vancouver 2010 Gets Financial Support From Newspaper Group

Vancouver’s 2010 Winter Olympic bid will get about $1 million worth of advertising space in newspapers of the Lower Mainland Publishing Group (LPMG), the Vancouver Sun and The Province.

LMPG group publisher and general manager Clyde Wicks said, “the economic impact of hosting the Winter Games is obvious. A B.C. government study indicates hosting the Games and expanding the Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre could result in $10 billion in economic activity and 228,000 jobs province wide”.

He added, “the unparalleled opportunity to market tourism in Vancouver, Whistler and the Lower Mainland, as well as the community pride and legacy left behind after the Games, will guarantee that British Columbia will never again be branded a ‘have not’ province”.
