Two members of the Integrated Security Unit (ISU), the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP)-led police force providing security for the Vancouver 2010 Game are under investigation by Vancouver police, reports the Star.
Staff Sergeant Michel Cote with the ISU said 11 officers, including the two under investigation, have been sent back to their home detachments because of alleged misconduct. They include four Canadian Forces personnel and seven police officers. The code-of-conduct violations can range from not showing up for shifts on time, to drunk and disorderly behaviour.
Also an RCMP member of the Olympic security team has been charged with shoplifting while off duty. According to a press release Staff Sergeant Suzanne Denise Marie Martel of Ottawa faces one count of theft under $5,000 from a retail store.
The Ottawa Citizen reports the Integrated Security Unit has ordered a code of conduct investigation.
Meanwhile a worker on board the cruise ship housing thousands of law enforcement officers on security patrol for the 2010 Games was diagnosed with leprosy Friday.
The Star reports the worker is a support worker on the ship and did not come into contact with the public or officers. Provincial health authorities issued a statement Friday night saying that the worker, who is not a Canadian citizen, does not pose a risk to the public or those on the ship. The worker was diagnosed on Thursday.
