Vancouver 2010 Bid Process Cleared By IOC

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has cleared John Furlong, the organizer of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, of wrongdoing during the bidding process.

Furlong said in his memoirs that a deal with Moscow’s mayor may have been crucial in Vancouver’s victory, reports The Associated Press. The comments reportedly raised the spectre of possible violations of IOC ethics and bidding rules.

The IOC released a statement Saturday which said that because the mayor is “not an IOC member there is no concern … John has confirmed to us in writing that no IOC member was involved in any unauthorized discussion”.

The statement stressed that “there is no evidence of wrongdoing”.
