The Vancouver 2010 bid committee made what is called a “low key” presentation Wednesday morning in which they said government funding guarantees means construction of Olympic venues could begin immediately.
According to CP the presentation, which cost $275,000 to produce, lasted longer than the allotted 45 minutes.
Canada’s Prime Minister Jean Chretien, who arrived just hours before the presentation following Canada Day festivities Tuesday in Ottawa, was one of two speakers to address the gathering along with Olympic medallist Catriona Le May Doan.
There was some concern just prior to Vancouver’s presentation. CP reports that even before the Vancouver team entered the hall there were worries over the men’s ties. Media consultants feared that the red ties, decorated with logos of various Olympic sports they had originally planned to wear, didn’t show up well on television. The ties were replaced by ties with stripes.
On a positive side, the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) former head Juan Antonio Samaranch, who had been rumoured to be supporting Salzburg, said, “everything I hear says Vancouver is the front-runner”.
